JOB SHADOW AND NARRATIVE
I, Estevan Moreno, Job shadowed Wild Bill's Barbershop and worker, Andy Martinez on August 27th of 2016 at 8:00 a.m. The reason why I chose to job shadow Wild Bill’s Barbershop was because I was and still am currently undecided of the career I dream to pursue in the future. However, what I do know is that I like to please and make people happy like being a barber allows me to do. I decided to job shadow Wild Bill’s Barbershop a week before the official day of the job shadow on August 20th of 2016.
On August 27th of 2016 my day began off on a good note; feeling great and very excited for my job shadow. I woke up at 7:00 a.m, had breakfast, and got ready. By 7:45 a.m I was already outside Wild Bill’s Barbershop. The first thing I did when I walked in was greed myself. I then took a seat and watched Andy cut hair for about an hour. It was very interesting watching him cut hair because he made it all look so easy. I was seriously so amazed. Andy then had me clean windows, sweep hair, and clean counters. To finish off the day, I then sat and watched Andy cut hair for another 30 minutes.
I learned that being a barber isn’t easy. Having to stand countless of hours, having to be in a room that isn’t so fresh/warm, and having to sometimes deal with rude customers. What I enjoyed the most was sweeping up hair because it actually made me feel like a barber. Also watching Andy please and making people happy by giving them a good haircut. However, what I disliked was cleaning windows and counters because It didn’t make me feel like a barber.
To conclude with, after job shadowing Wild Bill’s Barbershop and worker Andy Martinez I came to the conclusion that I would no longer be interested in being a future barber. Though being a barber allows me to please and make people happy, I found being a barber kind of boring. I would love a job where I can please, make people happy but also most importantly have fun and enjoy my job.
